Two ULFA militants, an Assam Police commando and a civilian were killed in an encounter between ULFA and a joint team of Indian Army, Assam police commando and CRPF in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of the two ULFA insurgents, troops belonging to the Army, CRPF and Assam police cordoned off the Kordoiguri village in the district.
The two ULFA cadres were identified as Raktajit Asom alias Chilarai alias Dipankar Hazarika and Ananta Asom alias Mathang Chetia, while the house owner’s brother Pona Moran also killed in the encounter.
An Inspector of Assam Police commando, Lohit Sonowal also killed in the gunfire.
After the gunfire, the operation team bombed the house of Puna Moran and burnt the house in barbaric manner.
Quick after the bombing, the angry local people staged a protest in the area and torched two vehicles of the security forces to protest against the killing of the innocent civilians in the name of counter insurgency operations. Even so, the joint operation team of Army, Police and CRPF managed to escape from public anger.
