A strong IED blast rocked the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters in Guwahati this evening at about 6.55 pm, in which two people have been seriously injured. This blast has been linked to the hardliner Paresh Baruah fraction of the ULFA who had only a day ago, offered conditions to the talks between the Government of India and the ULFA as reported in Times of Assam. It has been assumed that ULFA has carried out the grenade blast to remind the ruling Congress party of the peace talks and its conditions, which had been sidelined for quite some time now due to the parties involvement with upcoming elections.
The blast has not only created havoc amongst the members of the Congress party but is also expected to shake the “Taken for granted” situation by the Government where the talks with ULFA is being given a lower priority day by day. Interestingly, the blast occurring immediately a day after the hardliner fraction proposing its conditions for talk and threatening for armed action once again if these conditions are not met (As published in Times of Assam on 13th March) confirms that the outfit very well means what they stated.
In the meanwhile, the hardliner fraction of ULFA led by C-in-C Paresh Baruah acknowledged the blast by an email statement. The hardliner fraction also warns Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to not to liquify alerts by the outfit.
