Highly influential forces inside Bangladesh government which supports JIHADISTS and Anti-Semitic are putting continuous pressure on Metropolitan Session Judge in Dhaka, (Zahurul Hoque) in brusquely ending the trial of Weekly Blitz editor Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury who faces sedition, treason and blasphemy charges for his writings against JIHAD and militant Islam and for his advocacy for establishing of relations between Bangladesh & Israel.
Choudhury was arrested on November 29, 2003 from Dhaka international airport on his way to Tel-Aviv for attending a peace conference. The then government in Dhaka falsely labeled Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury as an Israeli spy and harshly criticized him for his writings against JIHAD and his exposing reports on the rise of JIHADIST forces within Bangladeshi madrassas. The government brought sedition, treason and blasphemy charges against Choudhury.
After the arrest of Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, he was cruelly tortured by the law enforcing agencies as he was placed on remand for 18 days.
American Peace Activist Dr. Richard Benkin started his undeterred efforts in freeing Choudhury from prison right after the Bangladeshi Anti-Jihadist editor was arrested.
At the relentless and courageous effort of Dr. Benkin, the case of Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury drew attention of US Congressman (R) Mark Steven Kirk who successfully raised the issue at the US congress and inspired the members of the United States Congress in putting pressure on the Bangladeshi government. Finally, Choudhury was released from prison after 17 months.
In 2006, the US congress passed a bi-partisan bill demanding dropping of the false charges which the Bangladeshi government brought against Shoaib Choudhury. Unfortunately, Bangladesh government did not pay any heed to such resolution of the US congress and trial hed been continuing til now since 2004.
Since January 2013, the Metropolitan Session Judge started showing signs of quickly ending the trial and since then 14 witnesses have already testified against Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury. A source inside the court told this correspondent that a section of influential people belonging to the government are putting pressure on the judge in convicting Choudhury with death sentence or life imprisonment. At the pressure of the same quarter, the lawyer of Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, Gobindo Chondro Pramanik has been abstaining from appearing in the court to defend the anti-jihadist editor.
The next date for the trial of Choudhury’s case is on 13th October 2013.
It may be mentioned here that, the US embassy has stopped monitoring of the trial of Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury since the government of Barack Obama came into power. Earlier, the US embassy had been closely monitoring this case, especially after the US congress passed a resolution (HR 64) in 2006.
