Sheikh Hasina in extreme notoriety – Internet slowdown in Bangladesh ahead of upcoming Polls

Bangladesh authorities from 20th November morning has dramatically slowed down internet speed to stop locals from watching Online News, YouTube videos, using social media like Facebook, Twitter, etc restricted application-based communication network such as Imo, Viber, WhatsApp etc.

This decision comes less than 24 hours of blocking Skype. Known from a source of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the authorities also are blocking any content on the web which is critical of the ruling Awami League.

The Bangladesh Prime Minister’s office also has ordered the local print and online media to apply extra caution while publishing anything related to the December 30th Bangladesh polls. A special monitoring cell has been set up by the ruling party to monitor every newspaper and news portal and notify the party high command on seeing any criticism or “negative” content about Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier the IT and Telecommunications minister Mustafa Jabbar told the reporters that the government may snatch internet connection if it turns into a threat to the country’s national security.
