Assamese Ornaments from handmade paper becomes popular

The Assamese ornaments made from handmade water-proof paper now get good response in the market. These ornaments are made by a couple Jiten Sarma and Moni Sarma of Pasoni gaon of Teak-Jogduar in Jorhat district. They become popular not only in Assam but got good response in the recently held International Trade Fair at Worli, Mumbai.

The price of these ornaments set range from rupees 250 to 650 and already about 5000 sets are sold.

The couple trained themselves in the North-East Handmade paper development Institute three years ago. At first they used these ornaments for their family members. But after achieving popularity they have opened them for market. Now they are producing the Assamese ethnic ornaments like, Dugdugi, Junbiri, Lukapara, Japi, Dhansira, Japi-pepa, Thuria, Maduli etc.
