Guwahati Planetarium set to get first of its kind Projection system in India

The Guwahati Planetarium is expected to run its shows with the use of the Hybrid Planetarium Projection, the first of its kind in India from late this Year. The Hybrid Planetarium Projection system, being installed by Japanese firm Goto Inc consists of digital all dome video as well as opto-mechanical projection systems with a digital sound system.

The first show with this system is expected to be launched after completion of the modernization programme by early December with the show ‘Cosmic Collision’. The show would highlight formation of the universe and subsequently the Solar system. The show, it is being claimed that, would be beautifully presented, with amazing astronomical images and extremely realistic 3D computer renderings. It would focus on the relic radiation of the Big Bang, and the molecular gas and dust that constitute the building blocks of stars, planetary systems, galaxies, and life itself.

In addition, an astronomical gallery and sophisticated telescopes are also going to be installed for the usage of students in the planetarium.
