The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) urged both the Government and the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) to show sincerity in carrying forward the peace process for a lasting solution to the Bodo problems. ABSU president Promode Boro said that the govt is showing half hearted attitude in solving the Bodo problem. ‘Govt attitude is half hearted towards the Bodo problem. When the militant’s organization are coming forward to expedite the peace process and willing to talk under framework of Indian Constitution, there is no question of keeping the case pushing. On one side the govt talk of peace, but at the same time it shows half hearted attitude in solving it, Promode said.
On the NDFB (R) willing to sit for a talk under the Indian Constitution, the ABSU said ‘When there is provision under the Indian Constitution of granting more power and autonomy, govt should be clear and solve it, instead of dragging the issue for years.
Boro said the govt should expedite the peace process and starts the peace talk with the groups who are ready an come forward for talk under the framework of Indian Constitution. AS the NDFB are willing to talk under the framework of Indian Constitution, Govt should carry forward the peace talk. The ABSU leader said the govt is acting harsh instead of trying to find out the root cause of the problem. ‘Target to crush off the militants should not be the govt’s attitude but to find out the root cause of the problem and find out a solution in solving it. Crushing off a militant group does not end the problem but finding a lasting solution to the problem is’.
The ABSU president urged both the parties to create positive environment for the peace process. Both the the Govt and NDFB should create a positive environment and start the peace process for a everlasting solution. The ABSU also welcome the NDFB willing to sit for talk under the frame work of Indian Constitution and expresses hope that both the parties will soon find out way and means and start the peace process. The ABSU also urged the govt to expedite the peace process with the DHD and UPDS among others. It may be mention that NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary had few days back said that he would abide by the decision of the Bodo National Conference (BNC) on peace talks. Earlier in the month, an eight-member delegation of newly formed BNC meet the Union Home secretary G K Pillai and Centre interlocutor P C Haldar in New Delhi on expediting the ongoing dialogue with NDFB (pro-talk faction) and also initiate dialogue with the anti-talk faction led by Ranjan Daimary.
