Foundation General Secretary of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Anup Chetia’s handover to Indian Government custody by the Bangladesh Government to foster the peace talks between ULFA and Government of India is expected to bring a radical change in the entire process by the mid of February. Anup Chetia, who has been the savior of ULFA in all hard times of the outfit is said to be a mastermind in diplomatic politics and avid visionary. In fact source of the outfit states that the entire plan of the peace talks between ULFA and Government started as early as 6 years back in 2005 and the diplomatic master mind was none other than Anup Chetia himself. The different media houses are seen making hue and cry about whether Anup Chetia would come and join the pro-talks faction and thereby participate in the dialogue between the outfit and the Government, or if he would continue in his quest for political amnesty in another country, thereby sticking to the Paresh Baruah camp.  However, we would state that this so called Rift between the ULFA leaders is only a gimmick, either to keep a back up armed wing ready in case the peace process does not move in desired direction or to put external pressure on Government to talk about the main agenda such as sovereignty of Assam. This is sure to come to light in near or far future, and the man behind the curtains,- Anup Chetia’s return would certainly throw light on the issue.
