Atleast two lakhs youth of Assam are going to be provided vocational and skill training by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan. This is being facilitated in order to meet the high rise in demand of skilled manpower in the state.

Assam state government would set up a vocational training centres in each development block of the state, as confirmed by the state’s Industry minister Pradyut Bordoloi . This year itself four training centres would be set up, one each in Tinsukia, Karimganj, Dhubri and Nagaon districts. Another 23 such centres are expected to be set up in rest of the development blocks by the next fiscal.

It is to be mentioned that the upcoming Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Ltd (BCPL) in Dibrugarh is presently facing shortage of skilled manpower. The demand for skilled manpower in the state is expected to further rise further as other related industries would come up once the Gas Cracker Project starts operational. Assam government is also coming up with a Rs. 1,000 crore plastic park in Tinsukia and at least 400 plastic based industries are expected in the region.
