Kokrajhar police have arrested the commander-in-chief of Adivasi Cobra Militant of Assam (ACMA) Kanhu Murmu in connection with the Militant organization collecting the rehabilitation grant in-aid provided to the relief inmates of Joypur relief camp in Kokrajhar.
Police yesterday arrested a cadre of the Cobra militant along with six others inmates of the relief camp from Kokrajhar Assam Gramin Vikash Bank in the heart of Kokrajhar town where the money was being withdrawn to be given away to the militants.
The Cobra C-in-C tried to refute the allegation saying that it is baseless and politically motivated.
Sunil Bhagat, the secretary of the relief camp committee who was also arrested admitted that the Cobra militants are collecting the amount meant for relief inmates. Bhagat said a meeting was held on 21 October last under the chairmanship of Cobra C-in-C Kanhu Murmu where it was asked the relief beneficiaries to donate Rs 10,000 from the Rs 50,000 they received as rehabilitating grant of which 6000 is for Cobra militants while Rs 4000 is meant for the private school.
