Cyber Crime degrading the name ASSAM in WWW

In year 2001, the first Cyber Crime related to Assam was discovered and created a horrible situation for 2 leading educational institute of Assam. One print media did a series of reporting on the issue but failed to touch the nail of the culprit. But the culprit had given the clue himself, accidentally, which was not noticed by most. The issue was resolved after few months of horrible tense.

Since then it has been a normal practice of Cyber Crime in Assam or by Assamese. Several cases were handled by the Cyber Crime branch of Crime Investigation Department(CID), Assam Police. Few were resolved by Cyber Crime branch, but many were yet unnoticed by them or un resolved yet.

Times of Assam have been reported about another Cyber Crime related to the state and the Nation. Going through the Information, which is a Pornographic website about Assamese Girls including several nude photos, we have found the website hosted on a Free Server located in United States of America. And the hosting company’s address is Automattic Inc., 60 29th Street , #343, San Francisco, California 94110-4929, United States. The Hosting company’s prime business is Content Management Software, by which one can maintain & update dynamic websites with ease. Times of Assam reported the Company about the Crime with case number 598287, that the Pornographic website is defaming Assam & Assamese in WWW world. But surprisingly the company replied that they will not remove the website as the violations do not fall under their Terms of Usage. In fact “Publishing Pornographic Content” is not permitted by their Terms of Usage. It was questioned from Times of Assam to the company, that while they have not mentioned about publishing Pornographic content how come they can allow publishing such. But they did not reply more.

Most strange about the website is, it is existing since September 28, 2009. More about content, we have found that the published nude photographs are not morphed but real and the girl proudly posed for it before camera. In the website, which provides commenting on content, several people have commented notoriously and in Assamese language using English letters. One of the comment claimed that the photographs are of a girl studying in Class 12 of a Guwahati based English Medium School.  In the left photograph you can see how notoriously people are keeping comment on regular basis.

NOTE: For greater interest of society &  the victim, Times of Assam has distorted or put color shapes to keep hidden the face of victim, on the url of the website so that it can not spread more and on the excessive dirty comments. We understand social responsible & publishing norms.
