Elephant smuggling racket busted

In a major achievement, an inter-state racket in elephant smuggling was busted by Assam Police following arrest of five persons from different location in the state of Assam. Following an input, police arrested one Ravindra Singh from inert-state check gate at Srirampur in Kokrajhar district on October 29 last. His arrest later led to the arrest of four others – Krishna Mohan Singh, Ganesh Tiwari, Doyaram Doley and Durga Kutum. While Krishna Mohan Singh, Ganesh Tiwari were arrested from Guwahati, Doyaram Doley and Durga Kutum were arrested from Bokhaghat. Police said Krishna Mohan Singh, Ganesh Tiwari  and Ravindra Tiwari are the main kingpins of the racket. They were on mission to transport the elephant from Upper Assam district Bokhaghat and have already settle arrangement with some local smugglers. Forged paperwork and false documents were recovered from the arrested persons.
Police said both Doyaram Doley and Durga Kutum were helping the smugglers from outside state in smuggling the elephants.
Kokrajhar SP P K Dutta said two elephant including an adult and a calf were recovered from the house of Doyaram Doley and Durga Kutum at Bahikuwa village in Bokhaghat.
