Former School head’s son arrested with linkage to ULFA arms’ haul

In a major breakthrough, nearly a month after the hidden explosives and weapons recovered by police from the premises of Shillong Vidayalaya school, Police have arrested Vedanta Dutta son of a former school head. 39 years old Vedanta Dutta was arrested from the Zoo Road of Guwahati by a joint operation team of Meghalaya and Assam Police.
Police sources said Vedanta is the son of late Bimal Dutta, who used to be the principal of Shillong Vidayalaya way back in the 1998. Vedanta had shifted base to Guwahati in 2007, three years after his father expired. Police also stated there were other people involved in the case and investigation was on to nab them. A huge cache of arms and explosives, believed to have been hidden by ULFA conduits, was recovered from the premises of Shillong Vidayalaya on the night of October 30. Police found three powerful grenades, and 125 live ammunitions from a suitcase. Later, a search conducted with the help of ‘deep search metal detectors’ led to the recovery of 2 AK 47 assault rifles, 5 kgs of explosives, 2 walkie talkies, 1 flash gun, 2 detonators and 6 magazines besides incriminating documents, all wrapped in plastic, underground below the permanent stage of the school. The documents found states that the arms and explosives were delivered to one Young Changma by top then 2nd lieutenant Drishti Rajkhowa alias Manoj Rabha way back in May 13, 1998.
