Illegal saw mill seized at Khoirabari

The Nonai forest range office personals under Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri  seized one illegal saw mill operating at Chabukdhara village under Khoirabari police station at 11-30 AM on January 19. The operation had been launched jointly by civil and forest officials of Bhergaon sub-division and Nonai Range Office. Bankim Sarma, Divisional Forest Officer, Dhansiri Forest Division told Times of Assam that the forest team lead by Ranger Officer Haladhar Kalita of Nonai Range seized the mechinaries worth Rs 1.2 lakhs on the spot, which were belonged to one Hajo Boro, who evaded arrest. The team also evicted another illegal saw mill operating by one Hareswar Boro, in the same village It needs mention that a number of illegal saw mills operating in the remote village arrea in Udalguri district have posed serious threat to ecology as people had started felling down even small trees.
