The affected families due to construction of Indo-Bangla Border Fencing have constituted a platform called Indo-Bangla Border Fencing Land Compensation Demand Committee which would as the competent authority to address the grievances of the victims. This has been confirmed through a press release sent today to Times of Assam from the chairman of the committee, Binod Bihari Chakma.
It is to be mentioned that in around 2008 and 2009, the Authority of Land Revenue & Settlement Department, Chakma Autonomous District Council, Mizoram had collected all relevant passes of the affected families in the extreme Indo-Bangla Border Villages of Renkashya, Futsury, Lokhisury, Ludisora and Gerasury on the pretext of making bills for payment of compensation. They were laid awaited for payment of compensation. But, when the final bill came out for in 2010, it was found that more than 250 families were left out and deprived. Some of the village leaders of the area approached the Authority of the Chakma Autonomous District Council and enquired the cause of such deletion. In response to the query, the authority of CADC committed to make payment of Rs.50, 000/- to each genuine victim within a short span of time. But it is more than one year now and it is being alleged that the authority of CADC is no mood to make fulfill the due compensation of the victims. Later, it was also reliably learnt that some of the victim’s land passes were mutated to some outsiders who availed huge amount of land compensation on their plots of land.
The Indo-Bangla Border Fencing Land Compensation Demand Committee has stated that it intends to represent as the competent authority so that the due compensation is made to the victims of the area and also retrieve the so collected passes from Land Revenue & Settlement Department of Chakma Autonomous District council.
Mentionable that under the banner of the said committee a road blockade from Rengkashya to Gerasury IBB Fencing road was made on 17th November, 2011. The intension of the blockade is to resist the construction work of IBB Fencing road. The newly formed committee has declared that this would continue for an indefinite period until a permanent negotiation comes out from the competent authority for payment of Land Compensation to the victims of the area.
