Assam Govt to Extend ban on NDFB

Assam Government today sought extension of the ban on the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) as it claimed that the group continues to involve in terror acts and extortion in the state. Amidst tight security a Tribunal headed by Justice PK Bhasin holds its hearing at Shillong on the Centre’s plea seeking its nod to extend the ban on militant outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) by two more years.               

Assam government today sought extension of the ban on the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) as it claimed that the group continues to involve in terror acts and extortion in the state.  Four evidences from Kamrup and Sonitpur districts were today produced before an Unlawful Activities Prevention Tribunal here headed by Justice PK Bhasin which is hearing the plea of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) seeking its nod on the Government’s notification, issued on November 23 last year, to extend the ban by two years on the militant outfit on the ground that it has so far not abjured violence.  In the last two years, two cases related to the outfit have been registered in Kamrup district while six in Sonitpur district, an official at the hearing told NETV, adding the progress of the cases were made known to the tribunal. The tribunal, which will hold its next sitting in Guwahati, is expected to give its findings by third week of May.
