Bishnujyoti Burhagohain : From Indian Army Soldier to ULFA’s FATHER

Hearing on bail petition today, the Tezpur Session court granted the bail plea of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA)’s Political Advisor Mama alias Bhimkanta Burhagohain alias Bishnujyoti Buragohain. Hence he is released on bail by the court.

Earlier the Govt Advocate opposed to his bail plea yesterday, but as it was hoped in regard of the scenario of Peace Talk between the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the Government of India, the one of the Pioneer founders of the outfit has been released on bail finally.

Bhimkanta Burhagohain, who holds the real name as Bishnujyoti Burhagohain, a resident of Tinzukia district, is a former Indian Army soldier and bachelor till death. The Political Advisor of the outfit was the prime key who braught the football player Paban Barua of Jerai Chakali Bheria Gaon, to the outfit and gave a new name as Paresh Barua with the charge of the Commander-in-Chief of the outfit. Though Burhagohain was one of the pioneer founders, he is not a member of Central Committee of the outfit, but was always been with Paban Barua alias Paresh in the age of 1980s. In mid to late 1980s, the both visited village to village of the state, to attend public meet. Burhagohain was named as MAMA by the ULFA leaders, at that time.

After the outfit was banned under Un Lawful Activities Prevention Act by Government of India in 1990, the outfit had to cross several downfall in the last decade of 20th Century. In early 1996, the outfit was re-formed by their yet last General Council meet at Bhutan based camp, after going through several downfall of surrenders and lost of many valuable leaders & cadres. Since 1996, the outfit honored as the FATHER of the outfit. In Bhutan camp, FATHER alias MAMA were in charge of the duty of Moral Lesson & Paintings to the newly joined cadres. In fact, MAMA alias FATHER was always busy with his Paintings in the days of Bhutan.

In December 2003, facing through the sudden joint operation by Royal Bhutan Army & Indian Army, the FATHER had to play the major role to rescue the women & children based on the outfit’s Bhutan camps, in absence of almost all operation commanders of the outfit including the Deputy-in-Chief Raju Barua, Drishti Rajkhowa. There was a rumor also about his martyrdom in the battlefield on the very second day of the operation. But after 2 weeks of the operation he had to lead & play the major role of rescue of the women & children by surrendering in mass before Royal Bhutan Army. He had no other way except surrender to rescue the women & children, while the Bhutan based Army wing leaders were either absent or killed or missing in the operation. By surrendering before Royal Bhutan Army, he was able to rescue the women and children along with him and to carry to India under arrest. There were also an Official surrender DRAMA of the FATHER alias MAMA alias Bhimkanta Buragohain also held in Tezpur 4 Core by Indian Army soon after he has reached, but later on thrown to Tezpur Jail. After the arrest of the outfit’s Chairmen Arbinda Rajkhowa, Deputy C-in-C Raju Barua, Foreign Secretary Shasha Choudhury & Finance Secretary Chitraban Hazarika, Bhimkanta Burhagohain was also been moved to Guwahati Central jail.

It is being hoped that releasing Bhimkanta Buragohain will make ease to agree Paresh Barua for Peace Talk, as Bhimkanta Buragohain alias Bishnujyoti Buragohain is the person who discovered the yet mysterious to catch or be seen Paresh Barua from  the football playing youth Paban Barua.
