The Indian Home Guard is an Indian paramilitary force which is tasked as an auxiliary to the Indian Police. The Home Guards Organization was reorganised in India in 1962 after the Sino-Indian War with the People’s Republic of China, though it existed in smaller units individually in some places.
Personnel are recruited from various people to include doctors, lawyers, teachers, employees of public and private sector organizations, college and university students, agricultural and industrial workers and others who give their spare time to their communities. All 18 to 50 year old citizens of India are eligible for membership and normally serve from three to five years each. Members are paid an allowance when called up for service. All members, after their first three year term of service, are eligible to be trained by the police in the maintenance of law and order, crime prevention, anti-dacoit measures, border control, disaster relief, fire prevention and firefighting, election and social welfare activities.
WHY THE INDIAN HOMEGUARDS WERE CLOSED.
THEIR ROLE IN INDIA HAS BEEN MADE A SHORT LIFE.
EVENTHOUGH IT HAD STARTEDIN 1962 WHY IT COULD NOT SERVE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA.
IS THE REASON FOR CLOSING THE INDIAN HOMEGUARD RIGHT OR WRONG.
AS A NATIONAL DEBATE IT CAN BE AGAIN ASKED THE TRUE PEOPLE OF INDIA, WHETHER THE INDIAN HOME GUARD IS NECESSARY OR NOT.
IN THE LONG RUN DURING THE WAR TIMES IT MAY BE HELPFUL.
AS INDIA IS FACING LOT OF INTERNAL DISTURBANCES INDIA MAY RETHINK THE NECESSARY OR THE CLOSURE OF HOMEGUARD FOR ITS TRUE CITIZENS.
HAS INDIA IS NO MORE A POOR OR POVERTY STRIKEN NATION.
THANKING YOU,
YOURS TRULY,
BALARAM
