World’s only supersonic cruise missile BRAHMOS to be tested in 2012

BRAHMOS, the first supersonic cruise missile being designed under a joint exercise by Russia and India is expected to take off in 2012. The Chief of the Brahmos Project, A Sivathanu Pillai was quoted saying “We are almost ready with the missile system. In the next two years, we are aiming to complete all tasks related to this”.

It is confirmed that the first test would be done on the air version followed by the underwater version by Indian Navy. Interestingly, many countries are reported to have evinced interest in this missile system. However Aerospace experts claims that it would take quite some time to export BRAHMOS to other countries.
