A 25 years old woman was shot at by two unidentified chain snatchers on bike, when she resisted their attempt to snatch her neighbour’s gold chain in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area today morning.
The incident took place at around 8.30am when the two bikers tried to snatch a gold chain from Komal Malhotra’s neighbour. She was coming back home after seeing her children off at the school bus, when two bikers tried to snatch her chain. She tried to resist and caught hold of the pillion rider who was trying to grab her chain.
Meanwhile, Komal who was sweeping outside her house saw this and came to her rescue. She took the broom and hit it on the pillion rider’s face. The rider’s associate then took out his country made pistol and shot at Komal from a close range. She was immediately rushed to Deepak Memorial Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
Komal is the youngest of the three daughters and lives with her family in Jhilmil Colony. She graduated from Hansraj College in Delhi University and finished her post graduation in MA (English) from Himachal University.
Komal suffered injuries on her little finger of the left hand and the bullet is stuck inside her diaphragm. She underwent a finger reconstruction surgery and is admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). “The bullet is stuck in her diaphragm in the cavity and there is no exit wound. A panel of doctors will have to sit and decide the next step,” said medical superintendent PK Duggal.
The police have registered a case of attempt to murder and snatching at Vivek Vihar police station and are on the lookout for the criminals.
