Seems like the newly drafted Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernisation Act, 2013 pushed by the Government of Unites States of America (or commonly being called as US Immigration Bill) has not gone well to the analysis of NASSCOM. The NASSCOM today called the bill as discriminatory, stating that the body has serious concerns on several restrictions being proposed in this bill.
NASSCOM President Som Mittal stated that the newly drafted bill has created discrimination between the visa dependent companies versus non-visa dependent companies, adding that this would severely impose restrictions on the ability of Indian IT/ITES industry to serve their customers. Mittal added that the new bill would put the Indian IT Industry out of completion in the market.
It is reported that NASSCOM Ambassador Nirupama Rao is working to talk to the policy makers in the US. In addition, the Government of India is also known to have been in discussion with the States regarding this.
It is to be mentioned that as many as USD 15 billion have been contributed to US by Indian IT firms through taxes and social security in the last 5 years.
The newly drafted bill is expected to be implemented in five months’ time and NASSCOM is hoping that their viewpoints would be considered by the US Government.
