Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal was Tuesday, April 08, 2014 punched on the face by a man while he was campaigning here.
The attack, which took place in Sultanpuri, left Kejriwal with a swollen eye. Kejriwal’s supporters immediately cornered the attacker, an autorickshaw driver wearing an AAP cap. He was later detained by police. The auto driver said police that he is a poor man to feed his family and someone offered him Rs 10000 if he can hit Kejriwal.
The AAP leader directed his anger at BJP after the attack. “I do not understand why do some people resort to violence for becoming the Prime Minister. If you think by attacking us, we will keep quite then you are wrong. We will fight this battle till the last breath,” he said.
Kejriwal also said, “Is violence an answer to country’s problem? Let them tell me place and time. Let them beat me as much as they want.”
Some auto drivers associations claimed the accused, 38-year-old Lali, was not a registered auto driver.
“It is impossible that one of us could have attacked Kejriwal. He has done a lot for us and we have always supported him,” said Jyotimay Yadav, an auto-driver.
