CBI withdrawn their appeal against the bail plea of Raju Baruah

The advocate of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has withdrawn their opposition today, against the bail plea of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA)’s Operation Commander and Military Spokesman Major Raju Baruah alias Hitesh Kalita, in regard to the murder case of the then Superintendent of Police (SP), Tinsukia District, Ravi Kant Singh on May 18, 1996. Hence the court granted the bail of the ULFA’s second in command of the Military wing Raju Barua against CBI case no 171/05.

It should be mentioned that, on May 18, 1995, a suspected group of ULFA militants gunned down the then Superintendent of Police of Tinsukia district, IPS Ravi Kant Singh, in the Barguri area of the district. It is also to be mentioned that on March 16, 1996, the Military Wing of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) was reformed in their General Assembly and the then Captain Raju Baruah alias Hitesh Kalita was powered as the Operation Commander cum Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the outfit.

After granting the bail plea today, the final hearing on Raju Barua’s bail will be held on tomorrow. A source of the outfit stated that it is confirmed that Raju Baruah will be released on bail tomorrow, October 13. But he will leave jail probably on October 15. The source also stated that, after his release, Raju Baruah has a huge responsibility in regard to the Peace Talk with the Government, as in the absence of the Chief of the Staff of the Military wing Colonel Paresh Barua, Raju Barua is the commander of the wing. Being the operation commander of the outfit, he also bears the responsibility to stabilize the violence from the outfit’s side in the coming days so that the Peace Talks could be held in satisfactory circumstances.
