One ULFA militant, named Debojit Duwara alias Brangli Asom, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Hebedai village of Tinsukia district, on Saturday, January 4.
Police claimed to recover a grenade and some ammunition from the slain militant.
Local villagers said our correspondent that Brangli Asom was arrested first and then killed in a field of that village.
In a press release sent to Times of Assam by the ULFA on January 6, the outfit announced Brangli Asom as National Myrtyr and denied about any gunfire. The outfit claimed that Brangli Asom was armsless and alone at that very moment and the Indian occupying forces killed Brangli with cool blood from zero range.
Mentionable that, Debojit Duwara’s elder brother too was an ULFA cadre who was killed in 2007 by defense forces.
The ULFA paid condolence to Debojit Duwara alias Brangli Asom’s parents Pradip Duwara and Janakee Duwara of Na-Matapung village of Tinsukia, claiming that their invaluable sacrifice by offering two of their sons for the struggle of regaining sovereignty of Assam will be unforgettable for the history of Assam.
