Blast in Assam – ULFA challanges Assam Police

Blast in Sibsagar

One person was killed and seven others were injured when a blast rocked Sibsagar town in Assam yesterday. Glass panes of some nearby constructions were broken by the impact of the blast. The blast could have caused higher casualty had it taken place an hour ago when the place was teeming with people.

Eight people were hurt and taken to Sibsagar Civil Hospital or another private hospital nearby and one of the injured Nirod Das (32) later died at the civil hospital.

Police said the blast, suspected to be caused by an IED and planted in a bycycle, was triggered between Central Market and Lakshmi talkies in the heart of the headquarters town of Sibsagar district at 9 pm. Police suspects ULFA behind the blast while local people suspect the hand of district SP Akhilesh Singh behind the blast.

Mentionable that, one MASS activist named Manoj Knowar was killed on sunday night by Army & Police at Sonari and ULFA claimed that Knowar’s killing is a part of defence forces’ killing policy. MASS and the family of Manoj Knowar also expressed that Knowar was killed under direct involvement of district SP Akhilsh Singh. This blast could be a revenge action from ULFA against Manoj Knowar’s killing.
