Heavy Gun Battle between ULFA & Meghalaya Defence force is going on at East Garo Hills district. The operation led by Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) commandos of Meghalaya Police raided a hideout of the banned ULFA in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district and engaged the militants in a heavy shoot-out before recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the area. The incident took place in the Danal Dasik area under Songsak police station this morning where around six ULFA militants were hiding. A heavy exchange of fire took place between the commandos and the militants, who later scattered and fled into the nearby jungles.
Police informed that operations in the area were stepped up after the recent blasts in Assam’s Goalpara district. The encounter is still going on. Five cut-off parties of the Swat commandos and police personnel have been fanned out to nab the militants, police said. Gulit Das, commander of the ULFA’s 109th Battalion, was among the sis militants hiding in the place. It was not clear if any of the militant suffered any injury in the encounter. Police recovered one Laptop, few Solar plates, Two WT sets, MMG boxes, MMG chain and bullets, three Chinese made pistols with ammunition, demand letters, books written in Assamese and some clothes.
