The National Democratic Front of Boroland (Progressive) yesterday met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and demanded to immediately relieve former IB Chief P C Haldar as the interlocutor. Gobinda Basumatary, the Chairman of the outfit faction’s chairman stated that they are not happy with the functioning of the present interlocutor and that they have been waiting for more than two and a half years for the peace talks to progress with no results.
Recently, the outfit had met MHA joint secretary for Northeast Shambhu Singh and pressed for a meeting with the home minister.
The militant outfit on Friday suggested the names of three politicians – former Lok Sabha speaker and NCP leader P A Sangma, Congress MP from Arunachal Pradesh Sanjay Takam and former Nagaland chief minister S C Jamir – and Meghalaya governor R S Mooshahary as Haldar’s replacement.
It has also been reported by sources that since Haldar is also appointed as the interlocutor for initiating talks with the other rival faction of NDFB (P) led by jailed Ranjan Daimary, the pro-talk faction is worried and hence the request for his removal. Mentionable that Haldar recently met Daimary in Guwahati central jail.
