Trains services were severely affected in wake of the 12-hours railway blockade called by Kokrajhar Merchant Association
demanding stoppage of all super fast trains at Kokrajhar Railway station. Several important long distance Express trains including Rajdhani Express and Sampark Kranti Express were stranded at Salakati, Fakiragram and New Bongaigaon railway station respectively. While the Delhi bound 2423 Dn Rajdhani Express train coming from Dibrugarh remain stranded at Salakati, Guwahati bound 2502 Up Sampark Kranti Express train coming from Delhi remain stranded at Fakiragram railway station while Dehi bound 2501 Dn Sampark Kranti coming from Guwahati remain stranded at New Bongaigaon railway station.
Hundreds of Kokrajhar residents led by Kokrajhar Merchant Association and supported by various political and non-political organizations gathered at Kokrajhar railway station and blockade the railway track through sit-in demonstration since 8 am demanding stoppage of all super fast trains at Kokrajhar Railway station. This is the second time that the association and public of Kokrajhar had carried out the railway blockade to pressurize the railway authority on their demands. On 13 September last similar blockade was carried put but withdraw within 2 hours after the railway authority gave assurance to take necessary action to the demands at the earliest and halts some important trains including Fast Passenger, Bangalore Express, Trivandrum Express, Secundrabad, Purvottar Sampark Express at Kokrajhar in 15-20 days time.
On the otherhand the railway boar has granted stoppage of Guwahati-Trivandrum Express from 3 November next at Kokrajhar railway station.
