ULFA leader Captain Antu Chaodang has been released on bail yesterday evening from Guwahati Central Jail. The Commander of the Bomb Squad unit of United Liberation Front of Asom(ULFA) was in Guwahati Central Jail since last eight months after he was arrested & deported by Bangladesh. Upen Burhagohain originating from Sadia joined ULFA in 1987 and took the name Antu Chaodang inspired by the then ULFA activist Rantu Neog. ULFA C-in-C Paresh Baruah appointed Antu Chaodang as the Commander of Bomb Squad of the outfit in January, 2004.

Known as one of the most dreaded militants of ULFA, Antu Chaodang was arrested in Bangladesh along with another ULFA cadre Pradip Chetia alias Rubel in December, 2010. Antu Chaodang was massively welcomed outside of the jail by the leaders & cadres of 28th Battalion of ULFA. Mentionable that Antu Chaodang headed the 28th Battalion as the Commander until 1999, after which (late) Lt Tapan Baruah alias Madan Das took the charge of the Commander of the same battalion.
