Woman killed in Barpeta, Assam

Raising the toll of violence against women in Assam, one more woman was killed by her in-laws in Barpeta yesterday.

Charu Deka, who was married to Damodar Bhuyan of Parahkuchi, Sarthebari of Barpeta district seven months before, found dead yesterday in her in-law’s house. As per report, she was missing since Wednessday, 27 June and her body found yesterday in the pond of her in-law’s house. She was pregnant for six months at the time of death.

Known from the sources, Charu’s husband Damodar was having an illicit relationship with a neighbor lady of his village for which their married life crossed through complexity. When Charu protested about it, she was beaten a couple of times, and she went back to her own home for several times. Charu’s parents tried to solve the situation but failed finally with her death yesterday.

Police arrested Charu’s father-in-law Uday Bhuyan but her husband Damodar and mother-in-law are absconding. Knowing about the incident, the local people got offended, and the situation is under tense yet reported.
