Facebook leaves Orkut Behind in India too

Orkut seems to have been defeated by Facebook in the space of Indian users now, if we believe the recent report by market research company comScore. Facebook has won the number one rank with 20.9 million visitors in July in India. Astonishingly, this figure has risen by 179 percent on a year-on-year basis. On the other hand, Orkut has managed to grow by a mere 16 percent.

Experts claims the major reasons behind Facebook’s rise are, apart from a different interface,  the presence of social gaming applications like Farm Ville, Café World, Mafia Wars, Treasure Island  and many more.

Overall, the Internet traffic visiting social networking sites grew 43 percent year-on-year. In addition, one can also find  a lot of Indian websites integrate Facebook  features to popularize themselves, which has added to the site’s cause.
