One Indian Army jawan was killed and six others injured when suspected ULFA militant triggered an IED blast targeting an Army convoy at Bamunghopa on NH 31 near the Pancharatna bridge (Naranaraya Setu) on Brahmaputra river in Goalpara on Tuesday. The blast occurre at 10.20am today.
All the injured jawans were shifted to the army’s Base Hospital in Basistha of Guwahati.
At 1.16 pm, Assistant Publicity Secretary of ULFA, Arunodoy Dohotiya alias Arunudoy Asom sent a mail to Times of Assam claiming responsibility of the attack. The outfit claimed that three army jawans were killed and nine others injured. “It was our regular protest against Indian Security forces”, said the ULFA statement.
Union Home minister P Chidambaram is touring the state and at the time of the blast he was in Dhubri district.
