In a massive gathering organized yesterday at Sarusajai sports complex, Guwahati the Congress party left no stone unturned to defend the Indo-Bangla land deal and to criticize the opposition parties of the state including the AASU and KMSS.

With all top leaders of the party present in the rally to give high pitched speeches, it seemed as if the primary objective was bashing of the AGP-BJP-AASU-KMSS and discussion on the land deal second.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi stated that the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All Assam Students Union (AASU) and the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) were actually “never in support of solving the long pending border dispute between India and Bangladesh” and the people of the state is being mislead by creating a “agitation like situation” by the “opportunistic” parties. He claimed that Assam has now been able to bring back 1240 acres of land under Bangladeshi possession.

Questioning as to why the AGP or the AASU never make any effort to get back the land which was in Bangladesh’s possession since partition even though it was featured in Indian map, the chief minister also went on to accuse that it was the AASU and present leadership of AGP who had secretly signed the Assam Accord with the prime minister of India, keeping the people of the state in dark.

BTC chief Hagrama Mohillary, who kept his speech questioned on the agitation programmes launched by the different groups. He also questioned and ridiculed if KMSS Leader Akhil Gogoi is a actually a farmer, engineer or land “Mandal”.

On the other hand, the same day also saw the BJP coming down heavily on the Congress. BJP Spokesman Sarbananda Sonowal stated that the Congress, including the Chief Minister, is resorting to falsehood now and that Congress’ soft corner for Bangladeshi infiltrators was an open secret. The BJP also claimed that the land belonging to Indian citizens paying land revenue was being handed over to Bangladesh as part of the pact and this itself clearly proves everything.

Mentionable that for the mass gathering at Guwahati by Congress, people from across the state were brought in buses from different places where Congress enjoys popularity A news channel of the state, interviewing some of the people who had come, claimed that most of the people who gathered knew nothing about the land deal and they had only come for better prospects related to job or money, lured by the Congress leaders.
