Six Assam Rifles personnel, including one Junior Commissioned Officer, were killed in an ambush on Sunday, May 22, 2016 by heavily armed militants in Manipur’s Joupi area.
The Assam Rifles jawans were escorting their Commandant and were attacked at around 1 PM near Hangshing village in Chandel district of Manipur. The convoy was returning after inspecting landslides when their convoy came under heavy gun fire from a hilltop.
Six army personnel were killed on the spot while some other were injured in the ambush.
The militants also decamped with the weapons – one INSAS rifle, four AK series rifles and a Light Machine Gun(LMG) from the slain jawans.
Till now, no militant group claimed responsibility of the attack.
