The government on Wednesday, May 18th decided to increase flight frequencies of airlines Alliance Air (Budget Arm of Air India) arm to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The move comes in the wake of two recent chopper crashes in Arunachal Pradesh, including the one which killed Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Dorjee Khandu. These two incidents had crippled Pawan Hans Helicopter’s operations in the state following wide public anger and protest.

The statement of the Aviation ministry confirmed as “The ministry has decided to increase the services of Alliance Air to Lilabari and Tezpur due to no-operation of Pawan Hans Helicopter Limited (PHHL) services to Arunachal Pradesh.”

As per reports, the air services to the hilly region of Arunachal Pradesh would be increased by deploying propeller-driven ATR aircraft, which have a seat capacity of around 70 passengers. In addition, the increase in services of Alliance Air would take the total number of flights to Tezpur and Lilabari airport to six flights per week.
