In a press release to the Times of Assam by Arunodoy Dohotiya, the hardliner faction of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has appealed to their chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa to clarify his current stand. Criticizing the Pro-Talk leaders of the ULFA who were released on bail from prison, Arunodoy Dohotiya of the hardliner faction stated that they would be forced to elect new leadership if Rajkhowa & Co. decides to remain silent of the issue of sovereignty and ideals of the outfit.
It is to be mentioned that a day earlier, Arabinda Rajkhowa who is currently engaged in lateral talks with the Union Government of India had stated that they had abandoned the demand of achieving sovereignty through armed struggle, respecting the wishes of the people of Assam. This was in reply to the C-in-C of ULFA, Paresh Baruah’s press declaration re-iterating that the outfit is strongly opposed to any talks without discussing about Independence of Assam and vowed to maintain this stand till his last breath.
On the other hand, in another press release sent by the pro-talk faction Publicity Wing member Kamal Kachari, it was clarified that Arabinda Rajkhowa was only against achieving sovereignty of Assam through Armed Struggle. He stated that the prime motto and ultimate goal of the outfit was always to achieve an Independent Assam; however the pro-talk leadership including their chairman has only changed their way from armed struggle to democratic and peaceful negotiation as this is what the people of the state wants.
