Student died of Lathicharge by Police in Kokrajhar

Dhananjay Ray, aged 16 year, who was seriously injured in a clash with the police yesterday at Fakiragram police station in Kokrajhar district yesterday evening succumbed to his injury at Kokrajhar Rupnath Brahma Civil hospital in Kokrajhar late yesterday.

Dhananjay, a class student class of Shakti Ashram School in Fakiragram was among the eight injured in the clash with police when a mob, mostly villagers of Judomoni, Moinatol, Kasibari area gheraoed the Fakiragram police station and ransacked the police station destroying materials yesterday evening around 5.30 pm. At least 10 policemen including Kokrajhar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) were also injured in the clash forcing the police to restore to laticharge and open fire in air to disperse the mobbed. Sources said the police fired atleast 6 rounds in air.

Around 1000 villagers from the Judomoni, Moinatol, Kasibari and neighbouring villages stormed into the police station demanding release of a village youth Kankan Ray who was arrested in connection with the killing of a young girl Dipa Pay was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Kasibari under Fakiragram police station on 19 November last and ransacked the police station.
 Mention be made that 20 years old Dipa Ray, a class 11 student of Fakiragram Higher secondary School was on way back home from school when unidentified gunmen fired at her at Kasibari. She received two bullet injuries and died on the spot.
