Film Director, Producer and writer Kalpana Lajmi passed away on today early morning at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital of Mumbai. It is reported that she died today morning around 4:30 AM. He was 64 years old at the time of her death.
Kalpana Lajmi was suffering from prolonged illness of liver and kidney from last 3 years.
Kalpana Lajmi was a renown Indian Director, Producer, and writer since 1970s. Though she worked as the Director of 3 films before Bollywood hit “Ek Pal” – she became successful after her multi-award-winning film “Rudaali” in 1993.
Lajmi’s another film “Daman – A Victim of Marital Violence” was another award winning movie which was distributed by Government of India in 2001.
Lajmi’s last film was “Chingaari” in 2006 starred Susmita Sen, Mithun Chakravarty.
Born in 1954, Kalpana Lajmi – niece of filmmaker Guru Dutt – was closely associated with famous Singer & Musician Dr. Bhupen Hazarika for many decades.
