Mukunda Kakati Statue Foundation

Governor J B Pattanaik laid down the foundation stone of the statue of Martyr Mukunda Kakati on the occasion of Swahid Divas(Martyr’s Day) at Nalbari Civil Hospital campus today. The district civil hospital was also named in the name of the martyr few years before. Today, State Revenue minister Bhumidhar Barman also attended the statue foundation stone lay ceremony held in the Hospital campus.

In 1942, in mass protest, part of Ahimsa Andolon, in Gohpur Police station, Mukunda Kakati of Nalbari and Kanaklata Barua of Gohpur were killed by Police firing. The both martyr were teen by their age at that time. Since then Mukunda Kakati and Kanaklata became a saga of martyrdom, which created several cultural dramas to full length movies about their heriosm.
