Eight Poachers caught in Chirang Reserve Forest

Eight poachers, including a minor boy, were arrested at Chirang Reserve Forest by Ultapani Forest Range personnel yesterday. They were found poaching two Barking Deer and three wild boars at night when patrolling group caught them red handed.

According to forest official in Kokrajhar, getting specific information a team from the forest department had carried out a raid the area in forest by Sampur River and caught red-handed all eight poachers.

It is to be mentioned that hunting of wild animals, especially deer, samba, for consumption of meat continues in large scale in Kokrajhar district of Assam, despite ban and penalty.

In several incidents in the recent past, poachers have shot down animals. The poachers who have been arrested have confessed of killing the animal and selling it in market.
