FIR lodged against NewsX, CanIndia, Free Press Journal & Aaj Ki Khabar

After the news Inhuman Cyber Crime by Jagaran, India TV, IndiLeak, NewsX, CanIndia to defame late Assamese Journalist published in Times of Assam dated February 07, 2014, it has been known that some of these media bodies involved have taken down the photo of Late Parag Kumar Das, which was showed as the picture of Paresh Baruah, most wanted C-in-C of ULFA (I). Amongst them, Jagaran have taken down the photo couple of days ago while India TV has taken down the photo this morning, based on a telephonic discussion with the Chief Editor of Times of Assam, Mr. Dhruba Jyoti Deka.

However, inspite of the report and people of Assam pitching their sentiments against this irresponsible act by these media sources, there were several Media forums who did not even care to take down this Picture (Apology seemed to be out of question for them). As such a case has been filed in the court against the NewsX.com, aajkikhabar.com, freepressjournal.in and CanIndia.com. The case has been filed by Advocate Mridul Barman(representing Times of Assam), advocate Bijay Sankar Barbora and social activist Bidyut Choudhury in Special Task Force(STF) of Assam police on Wednesday, Friday 12, 2014.

FIR against Indian Media

It must be mentioned here that about two years ago, there was a huge people uprising against a satellite Channel of the state, for which its Editor in Chief was thrown out of the media house. This time too, people are expected to rise up even more strongly, if there is no apology or justice to this grave crime by the National Media houses.

Times of Assam, who started this fight for justice is happy that some of the concerned Media Houses have understood and taken the picture down. However this is far from an achievement as this is only about the honour of our beloved son of the soil, Late Parag Kumar Das. Nothing else matters.

Update on February 15, 2014: Case no 02/2014 with sections 120(B), 500 of IPC and 66(D) of Information Technology Act of India have affixed in connection with the complaint made against the above four media.
