: Guwahati, December 12, 2010
Five highly-powerful rocket propellant grenades (RPGs), believed to have been given by ULFA to a militant group in Meghalaya, were today recovered by security forces during a raid in East Garo Hills district. Acting on revelations from five arrested cadres of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), a combing operation was launched by security forces at Soinang area under Mendipathar Police Station late last night. A hide out of a slain GNLA leader Joking Momin was busted by the police and the five RPGs were recovered from there, superintendent of police Sylvester Nongtnger said. Policce suspect the GNLA had procured the highly-destructive explosives from the banned ULFA, which also has presence in the area bordering Assam.
On Friday, Meghalaya Police had gunned down four GNLA militants, including Joking, and apprehended five others recovering weapons and ammunition from them in the militancy-infested district.
